We were all terrible children

5:31:00 PM

Since I’ve been feeling pretty nostalgic lately, I thought I’d keep the ball rolling. I’ll be the first to admit that I whole-heartily dislike children. Save for my niece and few other lucky kiddos, I want nothing to do with tiny humans. But my distaste got me thinking: What things are we all guilty of doing as kids that we would cringe at now? So I made a list.

Pretending you know more than adults. I was (still am) very big on learning new vocab words, one day in middle school we learned the word “ignorant” and I tried calling out my aunt for being ignorant about something, turns out I really offended her by using the word — oops.

Forging your parent/guardian's signature. This happened so often that when I finally got my mom to sign something, I made a photocopy and my artsy best friend at the time would trace it onto the form.

Making mom or dad call your best friend. Okay, so I still have a huge fear of telephones, but when I was a kid — texting did not exist — I would make my mom call all of my friends and then hand me the phone so I could talk to them.

Saying the most inappropriate things at the wrong time. Luckily, I have no memory of ever doing this, but I’m sure we’ve all witnessed a child yelling out something they should have kept to themselves. Children really have no filter.

I asked my mom to see if she had anything to say. Apparently I was a really cocky baby. “When you were two and a half years old and in pre-school, you were already potty trained. The teachers were potty training everyone else so you went into the bathroom alone, and when you were finished, you came out naked.” or the time I thought I was going to be a hairdresser, “You cut your brand new My Size Barbie’s hair, which of course was probably around $150 at the time. I thought I was going to die.”

What’s something you always did as a kid that you’re embarrassed about now?
